What I Learned at McKesson's National Sales Conference About Values-Driven Business

Reflections from the 2025 McKesson Medical-Surgical National Sales Conference (MMSNSC)

This past week, I spent three energizing days in Dallas attending the McKesson MMSNSC, an event that brought together the best minds in the healthcare distribution ecosystem.

As Principal of BMG Advisors and CEO of Cutting Edge Platform Partners, it was more than just another industry event—it was a reaffirmation of a powerful truth: businesses built on soul and values are gaining ground, and fast.

McKesson's Strategic Evolution

There’s a buzz across the industry about McKesson’s recent announcement to spin off its Medical-Surgical division. The response from insiders and stakeholders? Overwhelmingly positive. The move positions McKesson to operate with increased agility, accelerate product innovation, and elevate its positioning from a top-tier distributor to a clinically relevant, product-forward company.

This evolution aligns with something we call the Business of Soul—an ethos that prioritizes transparency, integrity, human-centered design, and long-term thinking in every strategic move.

A Moment That Stopped Me

While answering emails off to the side during the conference, I was approached by a gentleman with a commanding presence—sun-tanned, sharp blue eyes, and a confident demeanor. He showed me my own LinkedIn profile on his phone and said:

"There’s a lot of noise out there. But what you're writing—the Business of Soul message—it’s different. It stands out. Keep going."

He introduced himself as Paul N., a respected manufacturer whose family business has spanned over 100 years. Though we’d never met, I had long heard of his company’s good name. His kind words reminded me that people are watching, even when you don’t realize it.

I turned to my colleague and said, *"Wow. That just opened my eyes."

The Blessing of Awareness

In Jewish tradition, we begin each day with a series of blessings. One of them is Pokeach Ivrim — "Who gives sight to the blind." While on the surface it refers to physical sight, our sages explain it also refers to awareness, insight, and clarity.

This moment with Paul brought me that clarity. Eyes are opening. People are starting to value companies that are built not just to scale, but to matter.

Integrity Wins the Long Game

We’re seeing it across sectors: businesses that prioritize short-term gains, cut corners, and sacrifice quality are falling behind. Those who build slowly, intentionally, with soul? They’re winning—on reputation, on retention, and on real business growth.

A hundred years of family ownership doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by commitment—to product, to people, to principle.
