Cricket, Cows & the Future of Global Manufacturing

With apologies to my Indian friends who support any team other than the Gujarat Titans—I have to say it: I love the IPL.
The energy, the color, the noise, the sheer chaos of a match—it’s beautiful mayhem. And to truly understand what’s happening in global supply chains right now, you need to understand this: India isn’t just showing up. It’s becoming essential.
Honking, Heritage & the Hidden Advantage
A few years ago, I was riding through an industrial zone outside of Ahmedabad. We were stuck in traffic. Not the kind of traffic where people get annoyed. The kind where a herd of cows stands in the middle of an intersection like they own it (they do), while tuk-tuks weave through, horns blaring non-stop, and no one seems to care.
It’s not dysfunction. It’s choreography. India doesn’t move in straight lines—but it moves.
And right now, as the world’s manufacturing maps are being redrawn, India isn’t quietly catching up—it’s growing into a uniquely strategic position.
Passover & The New Exodus
We just celebrated Pesach—Passover—the Jewish holiday that commemorates the Exodus from Egypt. The escape from servitude into freedom. A journey toward purpose, even if it’s messy, hot, and confusing.
That’s what the world is going through right now.
Global supply chains are shifting—not out of rejection, but out of adaptation. Countries that built deep, decades-long partnerships in China are now looking to diversify—not as a substitute, but as a safeguard. Trade blocs are real. The lines are shifting. And logistics is now geopolitical.
Why India Wins (Even If It’s Not Perfect)
On paper, India doesn’t outpace China.
Infrastructure still lags.
Bureaucracy is real.
Trains don’t always run on time.
But in reality, India brings three things to the global table:
Democratic durability – Western partners trust its rule of law and independence.
Cultural liquidity – India flexes: region to region, business to business, need to need.
Raw momentum – India isn’t replacing anyone. It’s stepping into a space only it can fill.
What We're Doing About It
Years ago, we recognized that a resilient supply strategy doesn’t rely on just one region. We began investing in India—not pulling out of China, but balancing across Asia.
In India, we’ve built sourcing relationships, deployed QC teams, and established on-the-ground networks. Especially in healthcare, essential goods, and components, we treat India not as an experiment—but as an anchor.
There’s no one-size-fits-all playbook in India. You don’t show up with a spreadsheet. You show up with patience, partnerships, and usually, a chai.
Where This Is All Going
The world isn’t unraveling. It’s rebalancing.
And in that rebalancing, India is rising—not by replacing China, but by adding capacity, flexibility, and optionality in a multipolar trade world.
So yes, I’m a Gujarat Titans fan. But more importantly, I’m a fan of what India is becoming: not the new China—but the right partner in the new reality.
And just like at an IPL match—if you’re paying attention, the mayhem isn’t noise. It’s strategy.
And India?
India’s at the crease.
