🔥 Warning: Real Burn Story Ahead
(And yes, it ends with a delicious roast.)
I love to cook.
It relaxes me.
It gives me space to think.
To play with flavor, texture, and color.
And I love seeing people enjoy food I’ve made.
These days, I’ve become “the protein guy.”
Roza, my wife, knows that when it comes to Shabbat or holiday meals, I’ve got the meat handled.
No questions asked.
Friday Before Shavuot: Cue the Chaos
Last Friday, I was prepping a chuck roast for Shabbat dinner.
We were hosting a family of eight from New York, related by marriage but complete strangers until that night.
The kitchen was alive.
Stoves blazing.
Mixers humming.
Kids moving.
Ovens full.
We weren’t just prepping for Shabbat.
We were heading into a four-day stretch of holidays, with Shavuot falling immediately after the weekend.
Time was tight.
I trimmed the roast.
Tied it neatly with twine.
Rubbed it down with spices.
Fired up the La Creuset Dutch oven.
Got the oil piping hot.
The sun was shining.
A podcast was in my ears.
Everything was going smoothly…
Until It Wasn’t
I grabbed the roast with rubberized tongs.
Awkward angle.
It slipped.
And dropped.
Right into the hot oil.
A wave of scalding liquid splashed across my wrist and lower arm.
Immediate pain.
Blisters forming.
The burn was bad.
I shouted, rushed to the sink, and ran cold water over it.
My daughter sprang into action. She sliced open a tomato (don’t ask), wrapped my wrist in Saran Wrap (still don’t ask), and then raced to her house to bring me Silvadene cream.
Eventually, it helped. But the damage was done.
📸 Before and After: The Burn & The Healing

“You should go to Urgent Care,” my daughter said.
“I’m fine,” I replied.
“I’ll treat it myself.”
And I did.
🩹 My Wound Care Protocol
Saline Flush
Antibiotic Cream
Hydrogel Dressing
Silicone Foam with Silver (AG)
Hydrocolloid Pad
Vitamin E Scar Gel
I tracked the exudate.
Managed the inflammation.
Encouraged granulation.
Waited for epithelialization.
My son, watching from the sidelines, finally asked:
“Dad, how do you even know all this stuff?”
Before I could answer, Roza jumped in:
“You forgot? When we were newly married, he stayed up for weeks watching wound care videos and went on rounds with nurses. Now he’s finally using it on himself!”
She’s not wrong.
🧠 Wound Healing Still Amazes Me
Whether physical or emotional—healing is a miracle.
It’s destruction and renewal.
Trauma and resilience.
Pain and purpose.
Judaism understands this too.One of the first blessings we say each morning refers to G-d as:
“Rofeh chol basar u’mafli la’asot”“Healer of all flesh, and Performer of wonders.”
That phrase never hits harder than when your own skin is on fire.
👏 To the Wound Care World: Thank You
To the many thousands of wound healers out there—Nurses, doctors, caregivers, manufacturers, researchers…
Whether you're developing:
Hydrofiber dressings
Skin graft matrices
Hyperbaric chambers
Negative pressure wound therapy
Manuka honey platforms
Silver-infused foam...
You are in the business of healing.
And it’s sacred work.
The tools evolve.
The technology advances.
But the source of healing?
That still comes from above.
How we channel that healing—that’s where we come in.
🤝 Partners in Healing. Partners in Soul.
If we’re well-versed in wound care, body or soul, we can help others recover faster, deeper, and with less scarring.
And yes, for those wondering…
The roast came out amazing.
Our guests loved it.
